Pasta Jay’s at Lone Tree (Colorado Critic)

Pasta Jay’s at Lone Tree

Beating the rush is an excellent endeavor, and generally well worth it! It’s a grueling pain to wait in line as your stomach rumbles and you see countless others eating away. We were thus so privileged when we arrived at Pasta Jay’s in Lone Tree. We arrived quarter after 5 to a “calm” Italian restaurant but left a bustling scene with a line of people waiting for food.

Another advantage of showing up early is their daily happy hour in which many of their scrumptious meals are half the price! Always a good thing. We sat down to a red and white checkered cloth and under an arch of brick, feeling as though we were no longer in a Denver suburb. Cups of water were brought along with a PITCHER of water. I always jump for joy when I discover another restaurant which brings me the pitcher. As an avid water drinker I have only found a few places that can keep my cup full, and a pitcher will definitely stay the drought.

Our waiter, Jordan, comes and tantalizes our taste buds as she describes the daily specials and lets us in on a little secret that is not on the menu. The description wins us over and Beth chooses the Jalapeno Stuffed Ravioli and I chose their Florentine Pizza.

florentinepizza

The pizza is made with the traditional thin and crispy crust, an alfredo sauce, chicken, fresh baby spinach and black olives. I X’ed the black olives, because those do not taste good, and added some scrumptious roasted garlic. They readily accepted the change in menu and showed that they are flexible and an easy restaurant to eat at. The crust was a little too cooked on the outer edge, it being black, but surprisingly still tasted great. The pizza was good and I’m glad I got the lower price during happy hour.

stuffedravioli

The Stuffed Ravioli was exceptionally amazing. With the ravioli smothered in Pasta Jay’s famous marinara sauce, multiple types of cheese and the peppers being that perfect spice with out burning your mouth off, I endorse it. Worth going back at any time, even if those lines are long.

For our dessert we ordered Tiramisu and cannoli. And for once my order was better then Beth’s. I got the tiramisu which was good and light with a superb flavor. The chocolate dressing was at a slight variance to the flavor of the tiramisu but I just ate it without dip it in the excess dressing and was thoroughly “picked up”. The cannoli, Beth’s favorite, had an excellently deep fried crisp shell but the cream was a little too grainy due to the much added cinnamon.

Jordan, our waiter, was exceptional, truly the best of the whole lot at Pasta Jay’s in Lone Tree. She was truly honest! A great quality, one sometimes lacking in waiters.

Loy Dickinson, WWII war hero and former POW dines at Pasta Jay’s, Lone Tree

Loy_Dickinson_at_PJ's

Dear Folks:

Yesterday my family had lunch with Loy Dickinson, a WWII war hero and POW, his wife Karol and sister-in-law Judi at Pasta Jay’s in Lone Tree. Loy was an aviator on a B17 bomber that was shot down over southern Czechoslovakia on Aug 29th, 1944. My great Uncle, Joe Owsianik, was a gunner on that plane. Both Loy and Joe parachuted to safety only to be captured by the Nazi’s. Both spent the rest of the war in Nazi prison camps until they were liberated in May 1945. The entire 20th squadron of the 2nd Bombardment Group were shot down that day in a small area near the town of Slavicin. 40 airmen died, 46 were captured, and 4 escaped. The story is chronicled in the book “Mighty By Sacrifice”.

Loy and his wife now live in Parker, CO.

Nicole, Meghan and the rest of the Lone Tree crew treated us like royalty. The restaurant was very clean, the service was great, and the food was fantastic.

Thanks,
Mike Colucci

The Military Family Relief Fund assists Colorado military families impacted by mobilization, including National Guard members and reservists deployed as a result of mobilizations since 9/11. It also provides financial assistance for active duty military members deployed to hostile fire zones.  Not only does the fund make up loss in salary, but families may also qualify for help defraying increased expenses for food, housing, utilities, medical service, and other expenses incurred when a family member leaves civilian employment.

Based in the Denver, Colorado, Kids Mobility Network, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is changing the lives of children with disabilities by providing durable medical equipment (“DME”) such as walkers and wheelchairs to children whose families are underinsured or uninsured.

The goal of Kids Mobility Network is to optimize the use of durable medical equipment to enhance the lives of children with disabilities.  DME is critical to the development of children – both physically and socially!

Because children often outgrow their equipment long before its useful life is exhausted, Kids Mobility Network collects used DME, reconditions it, and provides it to appropriate children to enhance their lives.

“DME provides greater safety, mobility and independence for children in their important development years.  It is so important for children to have the necessary equipment that allows them to optimize interaction with their peers.  It helps them to develop important relationships, social skills and self-confidence.”

– Christy Kopp, Executive Director of Kids Mobility Network, Inc.

We have already provided nearly $1,000,000 worth of DME to children with disabilities.  If you know a child with DME needs and limited capability to acquire it through traditional means, we’d like to hear from you.  Please submit an application to Kids Mobility Network for consideration.  Learn more about receiving equipment from Kids Mobility Network here.

How you can help:

There are many ways to help Kids Mobility Network with its mission.  The organization accepts both durable medical equipment and financial donations.  Kids Mobility Network also now accepts Visa & MasterCard.

When a limo just won’t do…..

Last Friday, Jay Elowsky and Pasta Jay’s invited friends and family to the grand opening of their newest restaurant, in Lone Tree, Colorado. Too many friends for a Limo, Jay arranged for two buses to pick up his guests at Pasta’ Jay’s in Boulder, and drive us to Denver to celebrate the restaurant’s grand opening.  Jay had arranged for waitresses on the bus to take good care of us, with pizzas and liquor.   Michael Collucci acted as concierge/camp counselor, and led us in singing.  Another party goer entertained the crowd with his Neil Diamond imitation.  There was an in-flight (ride) movie on the way out, and coming back we danced in the aisles to the radio.   And the driver was great.
